The Case for Change at the Mass GOP

Recently, the Boston Herald featured an article entitled "State GOP Chief Pleads to Keep Her Job".

You can read it yourself - http://bostonherald.com/news/politics/view.bg?articleid=1305784&format=comments#CommentsArea

In this article, Jennifer Nassour cites reasons as to why she should remain head of the Massachusetts GOP.  One reason Ms. Nassour cited is that the House delegation has doubled in this last election cycle.   While Ms. Nassour takes full credit for the State Rep victories, she neglects to admit that the State GOP had very little to NOTHING to do with those victories.  The money given to those campaigns was just about nil, with even less resources directed to those in House and Senate races.

Here is a quote from Ms. Nassour about the Governors race  “I think it’s unfair for them to blame anyone but the candidate and their campaign staff (for the losses),” Nassour said. “The party chair has nothing to do with the candidate’s loss.”  Yet, Ms. Nassour directed almost ALL of the State GOP's resources at the Governors race.  Why?  A job in the Baker administration perhaps?  Only she can answer that question.

The point is that Ms. Nassour has taken full credit for races in which she did NOT recruit candidates for, and is trying to distance herself from the ONLY race that she threw ALL of the party's resources behind.

The EXPECTATION this election cycle, regardless of the spin out of Boston,  was Republican victories for Governor, Lt. Governor, Auditor, and Treasurer, a Congressional seat, and many more than 16 House seats.  So let's not change history to erase the failure of the State GOP.  And while the Baker campaign is truley responsible for its own colossal failure, the Mass GOP's fingerprints are all over the State GOP's failure this election cycle.

Many of the winners in the House races actually ran two years ago, before Ms. Nassour took the helm of the State Party.  Their success in this election cycle came from hard work two years earlier during the 2008 elections and a continued campaign over that period, to keep them relevant and electable this cycle.  Nothing of which the State GOP can claim credit for.

The Herald article demonstrates clearly why the Mass GOP needs to get rid of Ms. Nassour and bring in a leader who really knows how to run a campaign and what it takes to get elected and how to include a CONSERVATIVE base in the State platform.  The Mass GOP also needs a leader who is more concerned about the candidates and their success and less concerned about their own self promotion.

During one of the most dynamic election cycles in the last fifty years, the messages generated by the Mass GOP featured Ms. Nassour in her red dress with her title and Esq. abbreviation following it, and NOTHING about the men and women running for office at the GRASS ROOTS level.  Shameful self promotion.  Wouldn't a weekly or daily email featuring the candidates running for House, Senate, Sheriff, and Governors Council races have been what a real grass roots leader have done?

Now, with some resistance and calls for her resignation, Ms. Nassour wants to lead a "grass roots" effort to rebuild the State GOP.  The problem with this is that Ms, NAssour has made it very clear by her ACTIONS that she has no interest in building a grass roots organization.  Everything that Ms. Nassour has done in her first term illustrates that she has no interest in a grass roots GOP.  It's just not in her.

Ms. Nassour also cites as a reason to keep her at the helm of the State Party as
“It’s a really important time to have someone who is already a strong party chairman,” Nassour said of the inside power plays as lawmakers redraw voting districts across the state. “I’m the perfect person to be that watchdog.”  Folks, a strong leader doesn't have to tell you they are a strong leader.  And we don't need a watch dog, we need a junk yard dog that is willing to get into the fight and never stop fighting and doesn't care how they look as long as they get people elected.

Don't be fooled by any upcoming grass roots symposium sponsored by the Mass GOP.  A tiger can't change their stripes and neither can the Chair of the Mass GOP.

Time for change!

P.S.  I don't expect the State Committee to make the change at the top, so we're going to have to change the State Committee from the bottom up!

Watertown RTC Calls For Resignation

The Watertown RTC has called for the resignation of MASS GOP Chair, Jen Nassour, and even went as far as drafting and voting a resolution!

Following is the resolution.  The Watertown GOP is calling on their State Committeemen and women to support this resolution or thwy will seek candidates to challenge them.

Here it is:
RESOLUTION

December 7, 2010

It is the opinion of the duly elected members of the Watertown Republican Town Committee, that:

Whereas;
  • During Ms. Jennifer Nassour’s 2-year tenure as State Chair, enrollment in the MA GOP has declined to an all-time low of 11.34 %. Yet during these same 2 years, renewed interest in conservative, constitutional principles has re-invigorated the Republican Party nationwide.

  • As newly elected Chair, Ms. Nassour, arbitrarily and without a vote or consensus of the State Committee, announced in an interview granted to a radical left-wing publication that our Party would pursue new a policy, which abandoned important core GOP principles. Subsequently, under Ms. Nassour’s leadership and with her approval, the GOP State platform was altered, striking references to deep-seated Republican values, which are non-negotiable planks of our national platform.

  • Despite Ms. Nassour’s bizarre pronouncement and abysmal performance, Scott Brown managed an amazing upset victory in January 2010, with the assistance of the Tea Party and the conservative Republican base. Rather than building on the incredible momentum and enthusiasm of this coalition, Ms. Nassour adopted an irrational strategy of appealing to the ultra-radical elements of the Democrat party, alienating the Republican Party’s conservative base.

  • Ms. Nassour continued the failed strategy of past election cycles, diverting the vast majority of resources to a marginally Republican Gubernatorial candidate. She virtually ignored congressional, statewide, and local races. The end result: While Republicans were swept into office nationwide in 2010, Massachusetts Republicans sustained unacceptably poor election results, including but not limited to, defeats in every statewide constitutional office race, as well as every congressional race.

  • Ms. Nassour neglected to give a reasonable explanation for her failed strategy or adequately address any of the above issues, at the November 17th 2010 State Committee meeting. There also, Ms. Nassour failed to make available detailed accounting of expenses and contributions made to individual candidates by the MA GOP.  However, Ms. Nassour incredulously took unmerited credit for GOP gains in the State Legislature. Truth be told; these victories by conservative candidates came about with little if any assistance from the State GOP. Moreover, most if not all of these candidates ran as true conservatives. This was in stark contrast to the Gubernatorial candidate who adopted Ms. Nassour’s strategy of appealing to the ultra-liberal element of the opposition.

  • As presiding officer of the same meeting, Ms. Nassour was caustic, condescending, and combative towards any Republican in the audience, whether member or non-member, who attempted to voice his or her displeasure with the election results. In addition, in order to stifle dissent and to prevent any discussion that might expose committee members honest concerns, Ms. Nassour employed arcane, undemocratic, and slick parliamentary maneuvers.

  • Finally, in a move that is symbolic of everything that is wrong with the MA GOP, Our State Committee squandered monies for an exaggerated festivity at a lavish hotel to hold a meeting that could well have been held in a less ostentatious setting; all the while two Republican candidates were in dire need of funds to help with recounts.

Since it is the opinion of the Watertown RTC that the poor election results were due in great part to the feckless leadership and failed strategy of the State GOP spearheaded by Ms. Jennifer Nassour, it is the consensus of the duly elected members of Watertown Republican Town Committee that Ms. Jennifer Nassour is not competent to fulfill the duties of the office she now holds, and that her unabashed public belligerence towards the party’s conservative base makes her continued service as Chair untenable;

Therefore, be it resolved:
1.      That on this the seventh day of December in the year of our Lord 2010, the Watertown Republican Town Committee does hereby express a vote of “No Confidence” in the Chair, Ms. Jennifer Nassour, and calls upon her to immediately resign her position.

2.      That the Watertown Republican Town Committee hereby asks the State Committee Persons who represent the Second Suffolk & Middlesex State Senate District, Ms. Elizabeth Mahoney and Mr. Robert Semonian, to pledge their vote for a party chair who supports the entire national GOP platform and who can heal the wounds incurred over the past several years, and consequently bring a now ‘fractured’ Republican Party together for a common purpose.

3.      That should either or both of our State Committee Representatives fail to make this pledge and follow through on it, it will be the stated policy of this committee to actively seek and support candidates to run against them in the 2012 primary.

4.      That until new leadership is in place, this Committee will make no contribution, financial or otherwise, to the Mass GOP, and will discourage any and all individuals, whether member or non-member, Republican or Independent, from any direct contribution to the Mass GOP.

5.      That this resolution be immediately released to the various media outlets upon passage and that a copy be sent to the following:

Ms. Jennifer Nassour, MA GOP State Chairperson
Mr. Ron Kaufman, MA GOP RNC Member
             Mr. Michael Steele, RNC Chairman

Signed this Seventh Day of December 2010

Now What?

Now that November 2nd seems like a mile away, what does the MASS GOP do?  State Committeeman Bill McCarthy has called for Jennifer Nassour, Chair of the MASS GOP, to resign and will bring a vote to the floor at the next State Committee meeting to oust her.

We support that.

We support that because the focus has never been on grass roots party building as the Chair promised in her campaign for the top spot.  What's amazing to me is that the MASS GOP leaders and State Committee members (most not all) can't or don't see the error of their ways.

What the Massachusetts Republican party needs right now is a compass.  Who are we?  What do we stand for?  Where do we want to go?  Without a compass, we'll get somewhere, and most likely it won't be where we want to be.

What separates Republicans from Democrats?  What do we offer those that are un-enrolled to become a Republican?

We need a leader of this party OUTSIDE of Route 128 who has been in the trenches and understands what our party faithful EXPECTS of it's leaders.  We need a leader who isn't concerned about getting a job in the next administration, and highlights the Republican candidates in their emails instead of themselves.

We need a party leader who is NOT AFRAID to speak to the issues that are affecting our economic demise in Massachusetts and beyond.  We need a party leader that understands that our social programs in Massachusetts drive taxes and fiscal policies.  We need a leader of our party that understands the affect on local budgets of unfunded mandates and the havoc that it wreaks on our cities and towns.

We need a leader who understands that our party has a moral, social, and economic compass and that our goal is to help those less fortunate by helping to get elected, those that share the same beliefs.

We need a compass.  And we need it now!

Damage Control

At the end of this post, there is a message from the MASS GOP Chair about the great results of Tuesday, by doubling the size of the number of Reps in the House.  Okay, I agree.  It's great to have 32 Reps.  32 out of 160.

But before we accept the spin and damage control coming out of Boston, let's take a step back for just a moment.

One year ago, Charlie Baker was the front runner in the race for the Republican nomination for Governor and for the Office of Governor.  Even high ranking Democrats would privately say that Deval was done.

Then Scott Brown won.  We were ALIVE after all and we were going to kick ass come November!

At that point, the state GOP was predicting, almost guaranteeing, the Governorship ( and LT Gov obviously).

Joe DeNucci decides not to run for Auditor and we claimed that office.  Same with the Treasurer office.  Think back to the convention and what was talked about.

As late as this past Sunday, some GOP elites were claiming a sixty seat gain for Republicans in the House!  Oh my!

So while we will now hear the spin from Boston saying "we never said it would be easy" or "we're on our way back", keep in mind that this is the same group that was riding the Charlie Baker express, while waiving at the Rep and Senate candidates that needed a lot of that money that was placed at the feet of the Coronated Team Baker.

THE EXPECTATION AFTER THE BROWN VICTORY WAS FOUR STATE OFFICES, AT LEAST ONE CONGRESSIONAL, AND A LOT, A REAL LOT OF HOUSE AND SENATE SEATS!  Anyone who now says that wasn't the case is blowing smoke up your .....

So, we did double the size of the House delegation, but was that the target?  This is the same as being the Olympic favorite and coming in fourth.

The MASS GOP has NO claim to the victory of those House candidates.

Please tell me, when and where did the MASS GOP get involved in House and Senate races, to the point that you received a mail piece asking you for money for them or doing a fundraiser for them?  They didn't even open all the "Victory" offices that they were supposed to.  And now they want credit for doubling the size of House members?

My son once doubled his scoring average in one basketball game by scoring two baskets!  We also claimed victory!

The focus of the MASS GOP was always, always on Charlie Baker.  It was NEVER on the grass roots in spite of what they said, even as far as forsaking the rest of the Statewide ticket.

Folks, when a party Chair sends out email messages and their picture is the most prominent thing in the message, their not trying to build a grass roots organization, despite what they are saying.

Damage Control.

That's what you're hearing and will continue to hear, because the MASS GOP fell very far from the expectations from a year ago.

Post Script.  There are now FOUR, yes, just FOUR Republicans in the Senate with the loss of Tisei's seat.  Some victory.

                                       *****************************

Here's the "victory" message from the MASS GOP:

No one ever said the battle to get more Republicans elected in Massachusetts would be an easy fight, and we all knew our state would not turn purple in a single election cycle.
Yet this week’s election results prove our grassroots are growing and the GOP farm team is steadily building in the Commonwealth; On Tuesday we doubled the number of Republicans in the House of Representatives!
The MassGOP gained 17 seats in the House of Representatives for a total of 32 - more than a 100% increase.  In comparison, Massachusetts Republicans gained six House seats and eight Senate seats in the 1990 election. This year every incumbent Republican won as well.
One thing we’ve always heard about Massachusetts Republicans is that we do not have substantial grassroots. For ten consecutive cycles we have lost seats in the state Legislature. Our gains in the House this cycle will give us the energy and local leadership we need to continue to grow the Party. This year we have already added 100 new Republican city and town committees, and we've laid the ground work to organize more and will need your help and activism!
I am proud of all of our GOP candidates and your efforts to help end a 20-year Republican slide in the Legislature. Our work is far from complete, but we are heading in the right direction.
Sincerely,
Chairman
Massachusetts Republican Party

You're Shocked? Really?

So Massachusetts stays Democrat at every level except 20 or so new House of Representative seats and you're shocked, dismayed, and stunned!

Really?

Look at what happened here folks.  The governorship was the GOP's to lose and they sure did a bang up job doing so.  A first term city councilor could have probably received the same votes Charlie Baker did with all the screw ups over the last four years by Deval and Co.  I mean, what a disaster!

The MASS GOP needs new leadership right now.  This party has been run to elect Governors and has no idea of how to build a grass roots organization.  If the MASS GOP wants to build a grass roots organization, why do they always start at the top?  And while they start at the top, they somehow seem to never work their way down to where they should be, on the ground electing City Councilors, Selectmen, School Committee, Dog catchers, etc.  Time to start over and sweep clean the infected environment at the MASS GOP.  Epic failure yesterday.

As I stated some time ago, the race was in the middle.  The Auditor, etc, were the races to fund and push forward, not the Governor race.  Had the Auditor candidate been able to better advertise, she may gotten her message across to those who didn't know her.  But where was all the political capital in Massachusetts?  Oh yeah, in the Governors race.

Let's look at this another way.  Right now, EVERYONE who predicted this massive Republican rebound in Massachusetts, is now blaming the poor stupid, uneducated electorate for not knowing any better.   Too bad.  I know it's hard to look in the mirror after such a debacle.

What was the recipe for success for the GOP this year?

Let's see.

First, elect a Chair of the party that states "we no longer will focus on social issues" or something to that degree.  Which is code talk for "we RINO's just want government jobs so we won't talk about the hard stuff, so just elect us."

Second, choose a Lt. Gov. running mate who co-authors a morally reprehensible piece of legislation called the "bathroom bill."

Third, poke at the base even further by playing closed door politics to keep other candidates out of the race for Lt Gov.

Fourth, nominate a Gubernatorial candidate that states that he is to the left of Barrack Hussein Obama on gay marriage.

Lastly, the Gubernatorial nominee hires a staff that costs up to six figures a month and can't get out of it's own way.

Sounds like a perfect recipe for the epic failure that occurred Tuesday.

Now, there were some good things that happened on Tuesday.  21 Republicans won seats in the House.  We lost some to people running for higher office so it's not as rosy as it may sound, but I'll take it.  Side note, there should have been more but the money went to the TOP of ticket not the grass root level.

I will say again - it is time to sweep out the MASS GOP HQ and start over.  If we don't, we'll get the same results if not worse next cycle.

Political Wusses

I know there is very little honor among politicians, and it is even rarer to find those that stay true to their values (see Ronald Reagan).  But now we have a lower than low, low.

It's one thing, if you're a politician, to stuff bribe money in your bra, flash constituents, or play toe tapping in a men's room.  It's another thing when you sign up to run with a candidate as a Lt. Governor and bail out and endorse an opponent when the heat is on.

Rep. Paul Loscoco has pulled a real weasel move by dropping out of the Governors race and endorsing the very guy he criticized, Charlie Baker.  Cahill has lost two REPUBLICAN operatives and his REPUBLICAN Lt. Governor running mate in the last three weeks and still stays in the race.  At least he has the integrity to finish what he's started, good or bad.  A lesson that Mr. Loscoco should have learned growing up.

Why would Loscoco do this?  The Operatives have an excuse, they were in it for the money and the money alone.  Loscoco said Cahill was the best choice when he joined the ticket.  If Loscoco thought Baker was the better candidate, why did he defy the party and his join a "reformed" Democrat?

I'm sure that Charlie Baker will accept the endorsement of Loscoco, but he shouldn't.  Here's why - Loscoco's word is crap, period.  Why would Baker want to associate himself with a quitter?

What does Mr. Loscoco say to all those that donated money to him because they believed in Cahills campaign or took Loscoco's word that Cahill was better than Baker.

Let's all learn something from this - people like Paul Loscoco confirm the feelings of many that politicians are unethical and not trustworthy.

Just when you thought you saw it all.

The Race is in the Middle

While the Republican Governors Association continues to attack Tim Cahill to prop up the stuck in the mud Baker/Tisei team, Republican State Rep/Senate candidates and Congressional candidates are fighting for press and money, the success for the GOP this year may be in the middle.  Specifically the races for Auditor, Treasurer, and now Attorney General.

While Baker/Tisei haven't reached 50% of the vote in any poll, the real push for all GOP candidates should be to concentrate on Karyn Polito, Mary Connaughton, and Jim McKenna, in that order.  Each of these candidates will need 50% +1 vote to win their office, while the Gubernatorial victor will most likely receive less than 50%, if we are to be honest and realistic about this race.  Hundreds of thousands of dollars have already been spent and Baker/Tisei is only "close" to one of the worst Governors in Massachusetts history, when they should have been in the lead with this economy and taxes being raised, etc.

So, in order for the Rep and Senate candidates to receive any push or ride any coat tails to get over that 50%, it will have to come from the campaigns of Polito, Connaughton, and now McKenna.  The Governors race will continue to be a drag down with Cahill remaining in the race, as we have seen.  The focus should be on who can help the "bottom of the ticket" the most on November 2nd.  It isn't the "top of the the ticket"  It's the middle.

Polito and Connaughton are facing the traditional Democrat money machines.  We need to rally around them in the final four weeks to ensure they pull 50% +1 to the Republican side.  If Cahill hovers around 13%-15%, we have no idea where those people will look to for the others races.  If the light is shone on gang of three, it may actually help Baker/Tisei pull away from Cahill and Do Nothing Deval.

Think about this strategy for a moment and ask yourself this - Charlie Baker has been running for around a year now and hasn't cracked the 50% mark (and neither has Patrick or Cahill obviously) in his race.  What will change between now and November 2nd if the GOP continues the same strategy?  Money has been and will continue to be spent by all sides, so that won't change.  Money however, and energy, should be funneled more to where it will help the most.

The Middle, is where it's at!  Focus on Polito, Connaughton, and McKenna, and you push/pull the GOP to victory in November!

GOP Moving to the Right?

Perhaps we are heading in the right direction.

According to that wonderful political mind, William Jefferson Clinton, we're moving so far right with these (gasp) Tea Party  people, that George W. Bush would be considered a liberal now!  Wow, the left invoking the name of George W. Bush in their battle to convince people that Conservatism is evil.

CONGRATULATIONS folks!!!

Here's the link to the story:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100915/ap_on_el_gu/us_clinton_minnesota_governor

You got to love it when liberals are getting concerned that we are electing Conservatives!!!

By the way, why does it matter whether a candidate is a Conservative or Liberal? Take a look at what's coming in just a few short months.

In just three months, the largest tax hikes in the history of America will take effect.  They will hit families and small businesses in three great waves on January 1, 2011:

First Wave: Expiration of 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief
In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small business owners, and families.

These will all expire on January 1, 2011:

Personal income tax rates will rise.  The top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which two-thirds of small business profits are taxed).  The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent.  All the rates in between will also rise.  Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates.  The full list of marginal rate hikes is below:

- The 10% bracket rises to an expanded 15%
- The 25% bracket rises to 28%
- The 28% bracket rises to 31%
- The 33% bracket rises to 36%
- The 35% bracket rises to 39.6%

Higher taxes on marriage and family.  The marriage penalty
(narrower tax brackets for married couples) will return from the first dollar of income.  The child tax credit will be cut in half from $1000 to $500 per child.  The standard deduction will no longer be doubled for married couples relative to the single level.  The dependent care and adoption tax credits will be cut.

The return of the Death Tax.  This year, there is no death tax.  For those dying on or after January 1 2011, there is a 55 percent top death tax rate on estates over $1 million.  A person leaving behind two homes and a retirement account could easily pass along a death tax bill to their loved ones.

Higher tax rates on savers and investors.  The capital gains tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 20 percent in 2011.  The dividends tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 39.6 percent in 2011.  These rates will rise another 3.8 percent in 2013.

Second Wave: Obamacare

There are over
twenty new or higher taxes in Obamacare.  Several will first go into effect on January 1, 2011.  They include:

The Medicine Cabinet Tax  Thanks to Obamacare, Americans will no longer be able to use health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), or health reimbursement (HRA) pre-tax dollars to purchase non-prescription, over-the-counter medicines (except insulin).

The Special Needs Kids Tax This provision of Obamacare imposes a cap on flexible spending accounts (FSAs) of $2500 (Currently, there is no federal government limit).  There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children.  There are thousands of families with special needs children in the United States, and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education.  Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington, D.C. (
National Child Research Center) can easily exceed $14,000 per year.  Under tax rules, FSA dollars can be used to pay for this type of special needs education.

The HSA Withdrawal Tax Hike.  This provision of Obamacare increases the additional tax on non-medical early withdrawals from an HSA from 10 to 20 percent, disadvantaging them relative to IRAs and other tax-advantaged accounts, which remain at 10 percent.

Third Wave: The Alternative Minimum Tax and Employer Tax Hikes

When Americans prepare to file their tax returns in January of 2011, they
ll be in for a nasty surprise the AMT wont be held harmless, and many tax relief provisions will have expired.  The major items include:

The AMT will ensnare over 28 million families, up from 4 million last year.  According to the left-leaning
Tax Policy Center, Congress failure to index the AMT will lead to an explosion of AMT taxpaying families
rising from 4 million last year to 28.5 million.  These families will have to calculate their tax burdens twice, and pay taxes at the higher level.  The AMT was created in 1969 to ensnare a handful of taxpayers.

Small business expensing will be slashed and 50% expensing will disappear.  Small businesses can normally expense (rather than slowly-deduct, or depreciate) equipment purchases up to $250,000.  This will be cut all the way down to $25,000.  Larger businesses can expense half of their purchases of equipment.  In January of 2011, all of it will have to be depreciated.

Taxes will be raised on all types of businesses.  There are literally scores of tax hikes on business that will take place.  The biggest is the loss of the research and experimentation tax credit, but
there are many, many others.  Combining high marginal tax rates with the loss of this tax relief will cost jobs.

Tax Benefits for Education and Teaching Reduced.  The deduction for tuition and fees will not be available.  Tax credits for education will be limited.  Teachers will no longer be able to deduct classroom expenses.  Coverdell Education Savings Accounts will be cut.  Employer-provided educational assistance is curtailed.  The student loan interest deduction will be disallowed for hundreds of thousands of families.

Charitable Contributions from IRAs no longer allowed.  Under current law, a retired person with an IRA can contribute up to $100,000 per year directly to a charity from their IRA.  This contribution also counts toward an annual required minimum distribution.  This ability will no longer be there.

Now your insurance is INCOME on your W2's

One of the surprises we'll find come next year, is what follows - - a little "surprise" that 99% of us had no idea was included in the  "new and improved" healthcare legislation . . . the dupes, er, dopes, who backed this administration will be astonished!

Starting in 2011, (next year folks), your W-2 tax form sent by your employer will be increased to show the value of whatever health insurance you are given by the company. It does not matter if that's a private concern or governmental body of some sort.  If you're retired?  So what; your gross will go up by the amount of insurance you get.

You will be required to pay taxes on a large sum of money that you have never seen.  Take your tax form you just finished and see what $15,000 or $20,000 additional gross does to your tax debt.  That's what you'll pay next year.  For many, it also puts you into a new higher bracket so it's even worse.

This is how the government is going to buy insurance for the15% that don't have insurance and it's only part of the tax increases.

Here is a research of the summaries.....

On page 25 of 29: TITLE IX REVENUE PROVISIONS- SUBTITLE A: REVENUE OFFSET PROVISIONS-(sec. 9001, as modified by sec. 10901) Sec.9002  "requires employers to include in the W-2 form of each employee the aggregate cost of applicable employer sponsored group health coverage that is excludable from the employees gross income."

Joan Pryde is the senior tax editor for the Kiplinger letters. Go to Kiplingers and read about 13 tax changes that could affect you.  Number 3 is what is above.

Electing Conservatives is the key to turn this around.  Just ask Bill Clinton.

Why Primaries Matter

A recent State House News Service article gave a breakdown of registered voters in Massachusetts and Republicans don't fare well.  Compared to four years ago,

Democrats up their enrollment 1,453,669 voters to 1,521,487.  That's an increase of almost 70,000 voters over the last four years. No doubt through illegal immigration and indoctrination in our schools (my opinion).

Unenrolled voters, those lost souls of politics increased from 1,948,063 to a whopping 2,135,446.  An increase of almost 190,000 voters.

Republicans meanwhile, lost ground, going from 499,641 registered voters to 470,852, a loss of almost 30,000 "party faithful"!

Look at all these numbers again.  Unenrolleds, people who either don't want to be associated with a party, or feel they are better than those that are in a party, increased by almost 190,000 voters.  Why?

How can a party that had elected Republican Governors for twenty years, lose ground to tax and spend Democrats and to a non-party?

Let's look at it in a different way.

In a scene from Alice in Wonderland, Alice comes to a fork in the road and asks the Cheshire Cat, "which road should I take?"

The Cheshire Cat responds with a question, "Where are you going?"

"I don't know", answers Alice, to which the Cheshire Cat replies, "Then it doesn't matter which road you take."

Why would someone WANT to become a Republican other than their parents are Republicans?  Where do we, the party faithful, think which road the party is taking?

Does the Mass GOP know where's it's going?   This is an issue that precedes the current leadership, so don't lay all the blame at the feet of Jen Nassour.  But just like the Cheshire asked Alice, we need to ask the Mass GOP, "where are you going?"

Obviously electing Governors has not been a recipe for success for building a party, as we have seen over the last twenty years.  As I asked a while back, what's the strategery?

As we whittle down candidates today and end up with our players, we need to know what road we're going down as a party to get these people elected to House and Senate seats.  Will all of the Mass GOP's eggs be in one basket?

The other issue as I see it is that the Republican Party has not defined itself to the registered voters satisfactorily enough to warrant voters to place a R next to their name instead of a U.  Obviously, the majority of the voters have decided that it is better to have no party affiliation.  However, as the numbers point out, Democrats increased their enrollment over the last four years.

What road we take as a party does matter.  If we continue to neglect taking positions that may at times seem uncomfortable, for the sake of people "liking" us, then we will get what we have gotten and our ranks will further dwindle which will make future elections even more daunting.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

We've come to that fork in the road and we need to know where we are going.

Please vote today!

Guy Glodis "I FORGOT"

There's been a lot of news lately about slight oversights by some politicians when it comes to their campaign accounts, campaign loans, etc. Sometimes I think that the media makes mountains out of mole hills when it come to things like this.

I mean, what's the big deal? An Auditor candidate miscalculates a loan, or forgets to pay his taxes on the campaign account, or maybe didn't pay attention to the details, or whatever. So what? Like I said, what's the big deal?

What did you say? The Auditor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts can go after organizations for fines, penalties, or worse, for the same miscalculations? Come on, you actually want a politician, an elected official by the people, for the people, to uphold the law and live by the same laws?

Kind of reminds me about an old Steve Martin routine when he says he doesn't pay income taxes. If he got caught, he would just tell the Judge that the reason he didn't pay the taxes was "I forgot". Then the routine went on about not paying other bills - "I forgot" would always be his reason.  Sounds liek a great strategy if you're a Democrat in Massachusetts asking for the votes and trust of the people.

Seems like Mr. Glodis just forgot! I'm imaging his acceptance speech now; "I'm sorry people of the Commonwealth, when I said I would uphold the laws of Massachusetts, I meant that as they apply to everyone BUT me". I FORGOT!

Folks, I can't believe that this is a serious candidate for the office that will make sure that companies, municipalities, and the rest of follow the law.

Look, if Mr. Glodis was a political neophyte maybe, just maybe, he could chalk this up to inexperience, but this is a well seasoned political machine. No free passes.

Look to Mary Connaughton to make sure that the Auditor of the Commonwealth will not forget and will execute the office and her duties for the benefit of the citizenry. She's the best qualified candidate

When it comes to the election, just tell Mr. Glodis "I FORGOT" to vote for you!

Candidate Focus - Keith Davis

When the GOP heirarchy decided to "let them eat cake" and imposed a Lt. Governor candidate on the party faithful and blocked would be candidates from running for Lt. Governor, many of the those faithful said they could not supoport either the Lt. Governor choice or the whole ticket!  (By the way, "party faithful" goes both ways and the faithful EXPECT the Leadership to be FAITHFUL as well).  The party faithful wanted to be able to chose their own candidates, and did just that when allowed to at the convention.

Well, now there is a choice for Lt. Governor, and his name is Keith Davis.  Thankfully, Keith has decided to toss his name in the ring and allow the party faithful to have a voice come September 14th.  This is a write in candidacy against a political machine and needs your support.

While our party leaders have decided NOT to include social issues in the GOP platform and go with a Republican Lite top of the ticket, many GOPers don't agree with them.

Keith Davis needs your help with a write in sticker campaign.  It is time to send a message to Boston that SOCIAL ISSUES do matter, regardless of how much they say Massachusetts' problems are tied only to the economy.  Social issues as we have mentioned before, have defined our economic woes.

He is some information about Keith.  Please take the time and help a fellow Conservative.
                          *                         *                              *

Why I am asking for your vote:

As a conservative minded citizen, the social/moral, family and personal liberty issues are at the top of my list of the most important matters.

Our social and economic woes, and the huge bureaucracy fed by increased taxes and fees, such as the;

Sales Tax
School Tax
Liquor Tax
Luxury Tax
Excise Taxes
Property Tax
Medicare Tax
Cigarette Tax
Inventory Tax
Road Usage Tax
Real Estate Tax
Well Permit Tax
Fuel Permit Tax
Inheritance Tax
CDL license Tax
Dog License Tax
State Income Tax
Food License Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Gross Receipts Tax
Service Charge Tax
State Gasoline Tax
Federal Income Tax
Social Security Tax
Fishing License Tax
Building Permit Tax
Hunting License Tax
Marriage License Tax
Corporate Income Tax
IRS Interest Charges
Personal Property Tax
Accounts Receivable Tax
Recreational Vehicle Tax
Workers Compensation Tax
Telephone Usage Charge Tax
Watercraft Registration Tax
Telephone Federal Excise Tax
Telephone State and Local Tax
State Unemployment Tax (SUTA)
Medicare Tax (from Obamacare)
Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA)
IRS Penalties (tax on top of tax)
National Energy Tax (coming soon)
Telephone Minimum Usage Surcharge Tax
Approved Insurance Tax (from Obamacare)
Telephone Federal Universal Service FeeTax
Utility Taxes Vehicle License Registration Tax
Gasoline Tax (currently 44.75 cents per gallon)
Telephone Recurring and Nonrecurring Charges Tax
Telephone Federal, State and Local Surcharge Taxes

are a direct result of liberal, secular policies that serve to expand government.

Some of these policies have led to the decline of the traditional family, the decline of religious and personal freedoms and the decline of small businesses that fuel the free market engine.

This has brought our society to the breaking point.

Like many of you, I was very disapponted with the choice of candidates for the two highest offices in the state, because, among other things, not a single Lt. Governor candidate is openly standing up for the unborn and none support voters having the right to decide the definition of marriage.

Patrick on the Beck Rally

A man holds a rally and it is uplifting. Another man holds a rally and he is divisive. What's the difference between the two?

I fully understand the importance and significance of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" rally. It is cited as a turning point in the civil rights movement in America. No doubt.

Isn't Glenn Beck's rally important and significant as well? Did he not hold out hope and compassion for his fellow man?  Did he not speak for millions who feel they are oppressed and ignored by their government?  It was certainly not a race rally, but was more of a faith rally, and that is the problem for liberals.

Glenn Beck has stirred the drink many times with his words, but his rally stirred the pot. What the liberals are so pissed off about is the fact the he has the audacity of talking about FAITH and PRAYER in public!  They're upset because he wants to bring GOD back into our lives! Oh My!

I watched parts of the rally and found some of it to be the Glenn Beck style of "laying it all on the table" and letting you and me take away what we want from it.  I found other parts truly illustrative of how great of a country we really live in.  There are so many people who are doing great things for others in America and it should be celebrated as it was this past weekend.

The liberal angst is that Beck's rally, while not politically charged, was patriotically charged, and shined a light of truth on the dark liberal agenda. The rally questions the role of Government and the lack of God in our lives. Yes, Glenn Beck actually publicly mentioned GOD! A Godless country is good for liberals as they move towards Socialism/Communism and push through their political agenda of dismantling corporate America. This is what makes Glenn Beck bad for liberal business.

Beck's rally has even hit here at home with Do Nothing Deval weighing in on it. Listen to the YouTube link of a radio interview with the Guv. It's revealing, and the host does a great job explaining the subtext:

Is it a gaffe or how liberals really feel?

As someone recently said - "I can see November from my back yard".

Candidate Focus - Earl Sholley

In our efforts to highlight Republicans running for office, today we focus on Earl Sholley, who is running against one of Massachusetts most notorious liberals - Barney Frank.  Let's help Earl in his battle to unseat a disgraceful Congressman.

This is a piece I received from a Sholley supporter that I thought was an absolutely great piece from Earl.

A funny thing happened on the way to the new Health Care bill. Remember when
President Obama signed that Executive Order for Bart Stupak promising no
federal funds would be dispersed for abortion in order to get the votes of
14 Democrats who claimed to be pro-life? Stupak became a hero, didn't he?
Remember how Sarah Palin was savaged by the president and his media for
claiming that the Health Care bill had sections in it which would lead to
Death Panels?

Before the ink was dry on the president's Executive Order, $160 million was
given to the state of Pennsylvania to pay for mandated high risk insurance
pools geared to cover all "legal" abortions. Within days another $37 million
went to the state of New Mexico for the enrollment of individuals for
benefits to be received beginning in August and including an elective for
abortion services once a deductable was paid.

Page 53 of Maryland's Health Insurance Program's "2010 Plan Year Certificate
of Coverage" indicates the use of federal funds for abortion under
"Maternity Services".

Obama's Pre-existing Conditions scam in the Health Care bill is being
directly administered in 21 states across the country to the tune of $5
billion. Another 29 states and D.C. will administer PCIPs through their own
state programs.

The pro-life community has been vigilant and the recent outcry by the
National Right to Life organizations throughout the country has shined a
beacon of light on ObamaCare, leaving the HHS secretary scrambling for
excuses. We're winning folks! And it's all because of you that the silent
screams of God's littlest angels are finally being heard.

President Obama also promised the American people that they would "maintain
their right to a variety of health choices". In the same breath, he
appointed Donald Berwick - the man who stated in a public forum that
"healthcare is by definition redistributional" - to head Medicare &
Medicaid.

The UK Telegraph recently discovered that the FDA advisory Board has dropped
its endorsement of the drug Avastin which is used to treat colon cancer and
advanced breast cancer citing "cost effectiveness" for their decision.

When healthcare is restricted or rationed by government bureaucracies,
people die. Once the approval of a drug is revoked, insurance companies stop
paying for it. When a government bureaucracy becomes the decision-maker in
what costs insurance companies are allowed to incur to save your life, these
government bureaucracies indeed become "Death Panels".

It's long past time for Americans to hear the truth about ObamaCare and the
atrocious Health Care bill that was rammed down the throat of the American
people who never asked for it, don't want it, and are determined to vote
come November for candidates who promise to repeal it!

I am that candidate.

I ask for your vote on Primary Day, September 14th. As your elected
representative of the 4th Congressional District of Massachusetts, I will
bring your votes, your ideas and your future to Washington.

Springfield City Committee WINS!

Congratulations to Alex Sherman, Chairman of the Springfield Republican City Committee (SRCC) and the City Committee for their victory against candidate censorship in Springfield.

It seems that the 16 Acres Civic Association decided to have a "Candidates Night" but did not invite Republican candidates, all of whom have Democrat opponents (mostly incumbents).

Alex contacted members of the SRCC and other activists in Greater Springfield to hold a rally Tuesday night at the sight of the Candidates Night to voice their opposition and call for inclusion of the GOP candidates.

Today, Alex received word that the organizer of the event (after he learned of the massive protest planned and the media coverage that was coming I imagine) would allow GOP candidates to be included in the Candidates Night.  Wow!  Amazing how Democrats stifle free speech.  And I thought they were inclusionists.  I guess they are except when it comes to Republicans.

What a great victory for Alex in his effort to rebuild the SRCC and for all of the SRCC members and their friends.  They triumphed over despicable political games and liberal campaign dirty tricks.

Semper Fi SRCC, Semper Fi!

Financial Literacy

This past week, the Senate approved a bill (S-2275) to move forward to the House REQUIRING the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to help implement programs on teaching personal financial literacy in the existing mathematics curriculum.

The program would include; Understanding Loans, Borrowing Money, Interest, Credit Card Debt, Rights and Responsibilities of Renting and Buying a Home, and Saving and Investing, and Planning for Retirement.

I wonder how many State Senators actually read this Bill and understand what it is that they want our children to learn?  Because for a group that wants to educate the minions in financial matters, they sure don;t seem to act as if they are Financially Literate!

We should all hope that the beta testing of this program would begin in the Governors Office and then work its way into the House and Senate before rolling it out to children.  I like the section about Borrowing Money.  Perhaps our esteemed elected officials in Boston never were educated on the effects of borrowing and overspending.  This would be a grand time to begin a remedial course on, oh say, How not to Budget, or How to Avoid Living Above Your Means.

While this crew on Beacon Hill has enough balls to pass a bill teaching OUR CHILDREN financial literacy while failing at their own Financial Lietracy, Governor John Lynch of New Hampshire was taunting Do Nothing Deval and our legislature over this "tax holiday" we had this past weekend.  Governor Lynch knows what drives business in his state - LOWERTAXES.  He especially knows what drives Massachusetts business to New Hampshire!

How can Deval Patrick and his cronies on Beacon Hill NOT see the same thing that John Lynch sees?  And Lynch is a Democrat!  In fact, Lynch knows that when Massachusetts raises any tax, his state benefits, which means Massachusetts and the rest of us who choose to remain here, lose.

The hypocrisy on Beacon Hill regarding the "teaching of financial Literacy" to children is appalling.  Let us parents teach our children and let the DOE institute courses for Reps, Senators, and the Governor on Good Government, Ethics in the State House, and Budgeting for Dummies, and stop trying to pass the blame onto others.  We are in this financial mess because of the very laws you and your friends in Washington have passed.  And Republicans must share the blame for some of this, albeit, the burden lies with Democrats in Massachusetts.

Governor Patrick, PLEASE be the first in line for the class on Budgeting.  With your track record it appears that you need this course more than anyone!

What Help? (Repost from 7/24/10)

Over the last week, Mass GOP operatives were visiting candidates in Western Mass. Now, here's the rep from the State Party who has encouraged people to run for office, and when a few candidates asked what help they could expect from the Mass GOP, they were told "they could call anytime for advice."

Advice? From political neophytes towing the party line with no polling data to help candidates? "Call for advice?" About what?

If the state party cannot do candidate specific mailings or place ads for those that have placed their names on the ballot, then why do they fund raise?

What's more important, filling positions (some have left the Mass GOP to join Victory 2010 the sister PAC) at Boston HQ or passing that money along to those who need it. If the Mass GOP is only going to offer advice to candidates, they should be very specific about what kind of advice they are willing to share.
A short while back, we exposed a concerted email based smear campaign talking about "Dishonest Republicans." Let's add to that list incumbent Republicans with House and Senate seats who say that they cannot support/endorse one candidate because he/she has a primary, but supports/endorses other candidates with primaries? Interesting how that works. Or, House and Senate GOP incumbents who don't/won't help others running even if they are not in their district? Won't those same incumbents need those newly elected Reps and Senators for votes and party leadership positions?

Amazing is the only word to describe what's going on.

An article in the liberal Boston Globe highlighted the anemic bank accounts of those running for Congressional seats. Only Jeff Perry seems to have raised and retained a decent amount but his account is dwarfed by one of his Democrat opponents. Unfortunately, most of the GOP candidates in Massachusetts have to compete with that big sucking sound coming out of Boston - the Baker/Tisei fundraising monster. Baker and Co. is raising and spending money at record levels, here in Massachusetts and beyond in this race.

Most of our Rep and Senate candidates just can't compete with the Baker/Tisei juggernaut. Add to that, races for District Attorney and Sheriff, and you have a recipe for potential disaster, unless the focus of November is turned to Rep and Senate seats.

Let's see what "advice" the Mass GOP gives itself for victory in November.

KEITH DAVIS WRITE IN

FINALLY!

We now have some excitement for grass roots Republicans for September 14th!

Keith Davis, a GREAT guy and a true GRASS ROOTS CONSERVATIVE, has bravely stepped up and placed his name in play as a write in for Lt. Governor.  I say bravely because running a campaign is one thing, but running a sticker campaign is a balls to the wall ordeal.  Plus, his opponent will be Richard Tisei, Charlie Baker's choice for Lt. Governor, but not the people's choice.

From the very moment Charlie Baker announced a running mate well before the convention, there were grumblings in the party about the choice.  I'm sure Tisei is a good guy, but his social stances will make any solid Conservative cringe.  At the Convention in Worcester, there were constant rumors pf a last minute entry to the ballot.  But to no avail.

While Keith's battle may be an uphill fight, this campaign will cost the Baker/Tisei team in terms of time and energy to ward off any serious threat.  If Davis can grab just a small percentage of the vote, it could expose weakness in the Baker/Tisei juggernaut come November.  And this can get worse for Baker as the rumor mill persists that there will a write in challenger to Charlie!

Just when the RINO's thought it was safe to go into the primary, BAM!! The REAL GRASS ROOT Republicans are ready to shake things up a bit!!
