So Massachusetts stays Democrat at every level except 20 or so new House of Representative seats and you're shocked, dismayed, and stunned!
Really?
Look at what happened here folks. The governorship was the GOP's to lose and they sure did a bang up job doing so. A first term city councilor could have probably received the same votes Charlie Baker did with all the screw ups over the last four years by Deval and Co. I mean, what a disaster!
The MASS GOP needs new leadership right now. This party has been run to elect Governors and has no idea of how to build a grass roots organization. If the MASS GOP wants to build a grass roots organization, why do they always start at the top? And while they start at the top, they somehow seem to never work their way down to where they should be, on the ground electing City Councilors, Selectmen, School Committee, Dog catchers, etc. Time to start over and sweep clean the infected environment at the MASS GOP. Epic failure yesterday.
As I stated some time ago, the race was in the middle. The Auditor, etc, were the races to fund and push forward, not the Governor race. Had the Auditor candidate been able to better advertise, she may gotten her message across to those who didn't know her. But where was all the political capital in Massachusetts? Oh yeah, in the Governors race.
Let's look at this another way. Right now, EVERYONE who predicted this massive Republican rebound in Massachusetts, is now blaming the poor stupid, uneducated electorate for not knowing any better. Too bad. I know it's hard to look in the mirror after such a debacle.
What was the recipe for success for the GOP this year?
Let's see.
First, elect a Chair of the party that states "we no longer will focus on social issues" or something to that degree. Which is code talk for "we RINO's just want government jobs so we won't talk about the hard stuff, so just elect us."
Second, choose a Lt. Gov. running mate who co-authors a morally reprehensible piece of legislation called the "bathroom bill."
Third, poke at the base even further by playing closed door politics to keep other candidates out of the race for Lt Gov.
Fourth, nominate a Gubernatorial candidate that states that he is to the left of Barrack Hussein Obama on gay marriage.
Lastly, the Gubernatorial nominee hires a staff that costs up to six figures a month and can't get out of it's own way.
Sounds like a perfect recipe for the epic failure that occurred Tuesday.
Now, there were some good things that happened on Tuesday. 21 Republicans won seats in the House. We lost some to people running for higher office so it's not as rosy as it may sound, but I'll take it. Side note, there should have been more but the money went to the TOP of ticket not the grass root level.
I will say again - it is time to sweep out the MASS GOP HQ and start over. If we don't, we'll get the same results if not worse next cycle.
